|
| Hello | welcome :D |
|
| OpenStreetMap Carto version v6.1.0 released | great changes, this will be great for de-cluttering some areas of maps. Thank you to everyone involved in improving the Carto Stylesheet! |

| Many website are work in 24/7 | Websites and services that run 24/7 are hosted on servers. Servers are simply just computers that are kept on all the time, running specialized operating systems that are more efficient and only run the necessary services that are needed for their purpose, like running a web server, a database and stuff like that. Some people also do this as a hobby to selfhost their own cool little services. I have a homeserver (just an old office PC with some big harddrives) that runs various services like Navidrome (spotify alternative), ActualBudget (YNAB alternative), and a bunch of other stuff. links to read up on this topic: reddit.com/r/selfhosted reddit.com/r/homeserver the wikis and FAQs in those subreddits should also contain plenty of useful information. For professional website hosting, you might want to pay someone to do it for you first, as there is quite the learning curve involved in making a secure and publically facing website |

| My State of the Map 2026 | very interesting topics, havent heard of cartes.app before. Feels surprisingly good, wish they would accept one-time donations though, im not a subscription kind of guy. |
|
| just got here | welcome to osm! Its so much fun to contribute to improving the map wherever i go, feels good to have a positive impact. I suggest the android app “Streetcomplete” for on-the-go mapping for starters, its very good! |

| Aerial Imagery Existential Crisis | in situations like this i try to remind myself of the fact that perfection does not exist, it is only an idea. In this ever changing world, which boils down to different rates of entropy, we’re all trying to make imperfect things perfect, but only getting progress, not ever reaching perfection. And that’s okay! Because it’s the journey we’re after, not the destination. Every node is progress. Every little bit counts, as you lay the base for others to build upon your work. |

| GSoC 2026 Final Report: Routing through pedestrian areas in Valhalla | super useful and such an improvement! Huge respect!!! |
|
| First entry and edit | awesome, welcome to the open source movement :D |

| digital tourism and mapping remote places | @palamito thank you for the kind words and advice on JOSM :) I really ought to check it out, ive only briefly looked at it some time ago but never really gave it a proper try. I map on multiple different PC’s, so the comfort of a ready-to-go web-based editor has been nice so far. I see that it offers much more functionality, ive always wished the ID editor be able to align multiple objects in one angle (all buildings in a block for example). So fascinating that there are still a lot of unmapped roads where you mapped recently, I guess the age of exploration isnt as over as some say :D |

| Hallo Welt | Test Antwort :) |

| "We Prefer Not to Be Mapped" | Its an interesting question to pose, and i somewhat understand both sides in this case. Although in this day and age, you cannot realistically keep secret what is visible to the “eye in the sky” (satellites). Measuring what is better for the greater good of society seems adequate, as mapping places builds the foundation for very useful things such as emergency responses. If bad actors wish to gain knowledge through aerial imagery, then they can, regardless of if a place has been mapped in OSM. |

| Am I Addicted to OpenStreetMap? | I think we can agree that that is one of the lesser harmful addictions one can have. Your passion and drive to map things not only fulfills your own needs, you also contribute meaningful and valuable information to the open source world, immortalizing your positive impact on the world. Whenever you feel sad, remember how many people your changes have directly and indirectly helped. Huge respect and hope to see you continue to enjoy this hobby for a long time to come :) |

The Crimean peninsula, including the city of Sevastopol, is currently mapped as part of both Ukraine and Russia per decision by OSMF”” |

| Hello Everyone | Welcome to OSM! Be sure to check out the wiki, it explains things pretty good how to map things! Also the mobile app “Streetcomplete” offers a pretty fun way to map while outside. |
|
| Hello World | Welcome :) |
|
| Out of spite, i decided to master public transport / bus route editing, and realized i actually hate technology | be the change you wish to see in the world (of OSM) :p |

| Updating the OSM map in Egypt | To see the changes on your Computer/Web browser, you might have to do a hard refresh (ctrl + shft + r) so it does not display the old tiles that were previously cached. on openstreetmap.org, the changes are usually visible after just a few minutes! Other services that use OSM data (CoMaps, OSMand, MapComplete etc) might update their data on a weekly, monthly or other schedule so it will take longer there. |
