Hello again. In this changeset you changed Mead Way from highway=tertiary to highway=residential. I presume this is because of some classification in the City of Cape Town database that you're working from. But the City's classifications are not necessarily the same as what is appropriate for OSM standards. Please consider that these decisions have often been made after careful thought by the local mapping community, and shouldn't be overridden by what appear to be semi-automated edits.

Please could you explain the reason/source for this change? You changed the correct streetname "Avenue de Mist" to the distinctly incorrect "AVENUE DE MIST Road".

source should be Plan no, 5682/1953

("any of this" meaning "any importing of this data", of course)

Hey folks, sorry about the slow reply - I had a very busy week at work.

Regarding the permission for the data: I have emailed Grant Slater (a/k/a firefishy, you probably know him) because he was the one who arranged permission with the Municipal Demarcation Board to import their data. I have asked him to comment here.

Unfortunately the data is not available for download online - SA government agencies are really bad about putting their data online. I had to email the MDB and ask them for it. I am happy to upload the shapefiles that I received to somewhere that you can download, if that will help.

wambacher, re. your message: as I said, I won't continue with any of this until I have fully sorted out compliance with the import guidelines.

(Regarding the second point, though: semantically, "deletion and recreating" is what happens to the wards in South Africa in the delimitation process. "Swartland Ward 2" in 2015 is a different entity than "Swartland Ward 2" in 2016. But I can still see the practical value for OSM in keeping the history.)

wambacher: In 2014 I added the previous set of SA ward boundaries - I can't point to the whole range of edits but the last one is changeset #21821462. Nobody had an issue with it or made a complaint then, so it didn't even occur to me to do anything differently this time. I will certainly not continue with these edits until I have sorted out compliance with the import guidelines.

Nakaner: this is a very good point and I will consider how the import process can be modified to avoid the need for deletion and re-creation before I continue.
