Surveyed the large village of Swavesey and the smaller villages of Boxworth, Elsworth, Conington and Knapwell on Friday. Cold but bright, so a good ride on the bike, but yet another puncture, tedious and meant I ended up in the dark.

Did quite a bit of mapping in the Leicester's West End today - got more detail on the River Soar and the canal, including the Northbridge Lock and a couple of weirs, national cycle network route 63 northwest as far as Fosse Road North (here it follows a disused railway - the Leicester & Swannington - which the internets reliably inform me was the first proper railway south of the River Trent), and southeast into De Montfort University. Also did some residential stuff in the Narborough Road/Western Road area, and random roads around All Saints.

Did Castle Gardens footways. Disappointed that the gate to access the steps to the top of the castle mound was locked. Also, footbridge over St Nicholas Circle, locked (has been for some time it seems).

Learning JOSM is not so hard as it looked like at first. Now that I know JOSM a bit I never want go back to Potlatch. With Potlatch I produced so many mistakes! Now with JOSM I found the problems and could iron them out. Accuracy is so much better. This is what I looked for. Only the OSM tiles in the background layer have way to low resolution and are not really helpful. Maybe I can change this somehow?

Today I mapped some of my home surroundings, R. Monte Serrat, Av. Apucarana, Av. Salim Farah Maluf, R. Cantagalo, R. Padre Adelino, and the connections in and out of Marginal Tiete. A lot yet to go, though...

After discovering that SteveZ kindly converts the weekly planet.osm into garmin images which can be uploaded to a garmin gps I couldn't wait to see my latest updates to OSM on my own little GPS.

One of the nice things about this is that you can easily see if a street has been mapped before or not, which makes it easy to add new streets to your route and add them to OSM when you get home.

Anyway after riding home from work and deciding to do a few more k's I noticed that that the end of Arden St hadn't been mapped accroding to my GPS. So I rode various loops around all the streets there to record them on my GPS.

Only to get home to find that they all existed. Seems like BlueMM had mapped them all in the last week.

Oh well at least it was fun riding around a new bit of Melbourne.
