Hello honourablejack, and welcome to OpenStreetMap!
Unfortunately, we can't add footpaths "as shown on OS map" because that data isn't licence compatible with OpenStreetMap. As https://www.openstreetmap.org/welcome makes clear, "What it doesn't include is ... data from copyrighted sources. Unless you have special permission, don't copy from online or paper maps."
We'll need to undo these changes, but once we've done that we'd welcome you to continue contributing based on local survey (without reference to paper maps).
Where OSM excels is with the detail that isn't available elsewhere - what is the surface on this gravel track like? Where does the path really go across the field compared to where the council thinks it goes?
If you've got any further questions you can reply in this changeset discussion or mail data@osmfoundation.org .
Best Regards,
Andy Townsend, on behalf of OSM's Data Working Group. -
