Mapping in Australia

Posted by jcurl on 24 December 2009 in English.

It's nice to see that there is quite a lot of progress for Mapping in Australia. There's a lot of roads marked without names, but the streets are mapped out. Around Aberfoyle Park, there's still quite a lot of missing information I'm trying to update.

It's been a while since my last update, a lot (for the better) has changed! JOSM has Photo Mapping integrated, changesets have descriptions, updates on OSM are rendered almost immediately now. All of this makes for good editing.

Now what I just really need is a OSM logger for my Windows Mobile that can use the built in GPS to pull data in real time and store it as GPX. That would be cool. Then the next coolest thing would be to add waypoints immediately with my phone :)

Hradec now exists on the map

Posted by jcurl on 29 August 2008 in English.

It's two weeks ago I started collecting the data. The Osmarenderer was always more current but I find Mapnik looks nicer.

Two towns in Slovakia, Hradec and Chrenovec-Brusno are now mapped. Brusno has no street names, the whole town is referenced by house number only.

Thanks to KarstK for his initial help. It's also amazing, it's definitely not a good idea to take data from Google Maps, physically, from GM I found a street missing, GM says there are roads when in reality there isn't. And street maps aren't always correct. So, Gm for a reference only, but nothing more.

Some bits in Neufahrn

Posted by jcurl on 25 August 2008 in English.

Just a quick walk, adding some main points to bahnhofstrasse in Neufahrn b. Freising. I'll probably go there again tomorrow to collect a few more bits.

Anyone got any tips how to name the bus station and define the bus lines that are associated with it? Otherwise I'll follow the examples of the Underground stations in Munich.
