Time to upgrade

Posted by Little Andrew on 5 January 2013 in English.

I think it is time to upgrade my Garmin Nüvi 1300, but I am not sure what to get. I need something that will let me turn off that function that makes it try to stick to the road on the map even when it is wrong. I would also like it to create more frequent nodes in the track so I can see curves better. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I don’t know the Nüvi 1300 so what I am about to say may be not applicable. I have a Garmin 60CSx but I would expect that other Garmin products act in the same way.

“stick to the road” You can switch off this function: It is called “Lock On Road”. On the map page, select Menu; then select “Setup Map”. A number of icons appear at the top of the page: Select “General” if it is not already selected.

Move the curser to “Lock On Road” and press ENTR (enter) to off.

Having done so you trace not longer sticks to the road.

“more frequent nodes” I have set my 60CSx to create a node every second but only when I am moving. This may be possible on your 1300.

Select the “Track Log” page. Select “Setup” Set “Wrap when full” to On (there is more to this and you need to know it!) Set “Record Method” to Distance Set Interval 0.00km

I know that setting the Interval to 0km sounds daft but it works: The nodes are just 1 seconds apart.

You may not need a new piece of equipment. With a bit of luck another user will confirm the above!
