OpenStreetMap
I have started using JOSM, the initial learning curve is going to be a bit steep to get to the same speed and efficiency I were at in Potlatch but I am fairly certain that I won’t be seeing a web editor as often any more. The web editor is still unbeatable for quick and dirty edits and I am really looking forward to iD as the beta looks very cool, albeit a bit buggy and VERY resource hungry.

Once you have got the hang of JOSM, you’ll never go back to Potlach. Mastering the learning curve is well worth your time.

Yes, I have already reached that step. I can’t imagine why I have not done it sooner. I can’t seem to convince JOSM to make multiple holes in a polygon, one yes but not multiple but I will figure it out. The caching of imagery means I can be a lot more productive, I have yet to figure out how to download all zoom levels for a chosen area.
I also love the display as it really clearly shows were I have been and what areas I am busy with. I have some suggestions for improvements but will live with the editor a little while longer before making them. Mainly it would be nice to have the frequently used tags be persistent after program restart and the ability to single click select the frequently set tags rather than the 3 clicks it currently takes.

If there’s particular tags that you are using frequently, you can add them as buttons on the toolbar. Then its quicker and less clicks to add them.
Go to edit menu > Preferences, then choose the icon for Toolbar (5th one down). Then you can select presets from the menu, and add them to the toolbar.
If you want to use tags that are not in the standard presets, then you can create a custom presets file. See http://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/TaggingPresets

Create/draw all the areas, place the descriptive tags on each area. Select all of the areas including the overall area (by holding CTRL down and clicking on each area) when all are selected/highlighted click on Tools, and Create Multipolygon.
