I just started mapping.

I have managed to add a few town names to the map but I still see "unknown town" when I zoom in. The only time I see the town names I added is when I zoom out. Can someone help me figure out why “unknown” is still appearing at certain zoom levels?

Heute habe ich mich das erste mal mit OSM beschäftigt und war gleich beeindruckt von der Leistung dieser Gemeinschaft.
Da ich sofort irgend einen Beitrag leisten wollte habe ich mich soweit schlau gelesen, dass nun auf einem root-Server die VM liegt, welche Tiles rendert.

Mein nächster Plan ist:
Ich möchte mich schlau machen, wie ich mit meinem iPhone GPS-Daten sammeln und hier zur Verfügung stellen kann... ich hoffe, es wird leichter als ich denke ;)

Have it mounted but can't see where to plug in the battery charger! Found this handy thing on Kim Komando. Hope it works for me.

I work on a small lane called On Wo Lane which is at the end of Kau U Fong and have added some new footpaths and corrected some street names...

Did 40km on the pushy today to map out parts of Jesmond, North Lambton and Waratah West. Ended up completing a fair chunk of the region and will hopefully get time to complete Waratah West and possibly parts of Waratah and Mayfield West.

I leave for Lismore on Thursday night and still have to pack for the ~12 week stay up there, so there's a good chance that I won't be able to map in Newcastle for a few months now. But that just means that Lismore will be exhaustively surveyed.

A couple of mates and I are planning on doing a ~3-6 day cycling tour in the Spring, so there's a good chance that much mapping will result in the name of endurance training before then :).

Anyway, my goal of having Newcastle mapped by Christmas seems to be quite reasonable, and that's assuming that nobody else starts to contribute in the next few months.

Maybe it's time to start planning some printed maps. To see a printed map get distributed in a tourist information center or something would really be an amazing achievement :).

I'm really getting into the swing of this. I have been walking the streets of my local area and getting lots of gps tracks.

I've started to notice that several roads don't match my tracks. I've driven and walked these roads and sometimes the road is about 20m off the track.

Is there anything I should do before making to many changes ot other people's work. To avoid stepping on people's toes or making my own mistakes.....
