The key developer=*
is used to name the organisation or other entity who is or was responsible for the development of a real estate development. This could be a housing estate, an apartment building, an office building, a skyscraper, a school or another development.
The developer isn't necessarily the owner=*
or operator=*
, as the houses may be later sold off with the original developer no longer having any attachment to the land they developed (see Key:developer#Not to be confused with).
How to use
For a housing estate, mark the area with landuse=residential
if already built or construction:landuse=residential
if being built or proposed:landuse=residential
if being proposed, then add developer=*
with the name of the organisation undertaking the development. Consider also adding developer:wikidata=*
.
For a single building development such as an apartment building you may also use landuse=residential
+ residential=apartments
on the apartment complex site, or alternatively if using building=apartments
without a dedicated residential landuse then add developer=*
directly to the building=apartments
or construction:building=apartments
or proposed:building=apartments
.
Not to be confused with
builder=*
: Refers to the company or contractor that physically constructed the building or project. The builder executes the construction based on designs and plans.owner=*
: Indicates the current legal owner of the property. This may be an individual, company, or government entity, and may differ from the developer.operator=*
: Represents the entity currently responsible for the day-to-day running or managing of the facility after completion, such as a company running a mall or managing a residential complex.funder=*
: Denotes the organization or individual who provided the financial investment or capital for the project. Funders may be banks, investors, or public institutions and are not necessarily involved in planning or execution.
Complementary tags
In order to standardize, structure and link developers and their projects, some complementary tags can be added, e.g.:
developer:wikidata=*
: Links the developer entity to a structured Wikidata item.developer:wikipedia=*
: Links the Wikipedia page of the developer.developer:website=*
: Points to the official website of the developer.developer:type=*
: Specifies the type of developer (e.g. private, public, government).
