Open Road Park, founded in 1992, and operated as an NYC Parks GreenThumb garden, disbanded around 2010. The lot is owned by the New York City Department of Education. Around 2000, the eastern portion of the lot was partitioned off and became a playground called Lower East Side Playground, administered by the NYC Parks Department. The remainder of the lot continued operating as a community garden via GreenThumb. By 2010, the garden ceased functioning as an open space and was no longer in the GreenThumb program. The garden was revived as a GreenThumb community garden in 2016 under the name East Side Outside Community Garden, in partnership with East Side Community High School. As such, the name Open Road Park has not been used for this space since approximately 2010.
