Prior to joining the faculty in 1975, I was dealing with my postdoctoral research studies in biochemistry and biology at Brandeis University. My interest in nutrition was begun during my professorship at the University when I was designated to teaching of a nutrition course and I learnt there is an absence of standards relating to nutrition demands.
From 1976 to 1986, I was associate dean for Human Biology and taught nutrition at the UCSF School of Medication. From 1986 to 1988, I was senior nutrition policy consultant in the Department of Health and Person Solutions and editor of the Cosmetic surgeon General’s Report on Nutrition and Health.
In 1988, I was selected Chair of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at New york city Univeristy, I held the position till 2003. In cooperation with Clark Wolf in 1996, we established the graduate program of the Food Studies at NY University. The concept of the program was to raise the public’s awareness of the function of food in the society, culture and on a personal level. Thep program was not just effective but also was a motivation for the other universities to establish own programs. Our research study analyzes clinical and socioeconomic impacts on food option, obesity, and food security, highlighting the role of food marketing. Through my function at NYU and my book, Food Politics, written in 2002, I have actually become a nationwide influencer of food policy, nutrition, and food education.
