My passion is exploring and maintaining the public backroads of the western US. When I cannot get out into backcountry, my new hobby is updating road mapping. I focus on USFS roads but dabble in WDFW, BLM, etc… Every once in a while I try to fix other issues I find. I mostly use LIDAR but also use imagery and official datasets. I am also starting to use Vespucci to do edits in the field when I can ground truth the location of gates and condition of roads.

I have worked for land management agencies so I often use my professional knowledge to interpret various datasets.

I am currently overhauling the Okanogan-Wenatchee and Colville National Forests.

One specific 2026 project is a detailed overhaul of the Entiat Watershed. I have found that the contributions of several past editors have introduced nonexistent trails and that the crazy network of closed roads needs to be visible to aid in navigation at the many complicated intersections.

I am also chipping away at the mess that is the Republic Washington area. So much raw TIGER data to fix using LIDAR!
