S'all good man, believe it or not I was really trying to NOT be cantankerous or make you feel bullied. :D Putting descriptions in `name` is something that lots of new mappers do, and its use is... it's something I think still needs working on to get across to people. All that said, contributions from local people are super appreciated! Like I said in another changeset comment, I'm just another local (although I'm from the west of Calgary, and not out in Strathmore very often).

Hello again Skittles, As per my comment on your earlier changeset (changeset/183857251), `name` is for names only. So when you add "name=CKRC" to the raceway here, what you're saying is if I go there on any given day and point at the track and say "What is the name of this asphalt surface?" that anyone I ask would tell me "Oh it's called CKRC". So, is that really the case? Is the asphalt track itself called "CKRC"? Or are you adding it to the track because the Calgary Kart Racing Club operate it? You're new to mapping things on OSM, so I'm just trying to explain the distinction here. You've demonstrated a pattern of putting descriptions in the `name` key, on things like the "random motocross track" west of here (way/1527731457) and "random pond" to the little pond at the south end of the motorsports park. You added "CKRC MotoCross (abandoned)" to the name of the abandoned motocross track at the northeast corner of the motorsports park (changeset/184602019) and I deleted it a few minutes ago because that's a *description*, not a *name*. The track is not named "CKRC MotoCross (abandoned)": it's an abandoned motocross track that was previously operated by the CKRC. I changed the tag highway=raceway to abandoned:highway=raceway. This is called a lifecycle prefix, and denotes to any data user that wants this info that the track is disused. In combination with the tag sport=motocross we know it's an abandoned motorcross track. So adding "name=CKRC MotoCross (abandoned)" to it is completely superfluous and is a misuse of the `name` key. Given the CKRC operate the Strathmore Motorsports Park I am—I hope, understandably—skeptical that the track surface itself is called "CKRC", and instead you've just slapped "name=CKRC" on it because you colloquially call the entire motorsports park "CKRC".

That actually piqued my interest too. So, there's the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and Nature Centre, which is a park space and interpretive centre building owned and operated by the City of Calgary (way/52466592). There is ALSO "the Inglewood Migratory Bird Sanctuary", as defined by Environment Canada under the auspices of the Migratory Birds Convention Act (relation/20699670/). This area is NOT entirely coincident with the aforementioned City-owned park, and also encompasses most of the golf course on the east side of the river. I see now that timuranium has changed way/1515566163 to also be an "inner" way of the Migratory Bird Santuary relation. I have no idea why...
Hello JGamerl, You deleted the power=substation and ref=151S tags from the substation off of the Trans-Canada at George Freeman Trail. (way/432563285/) I have since fixed it. Please be careful with the changes you are making.
Okay, I see a faint outline of something on the Esri imagery... I'll trust that this is actually a track. That said, I've deleted the "random motorcross track" name from it. The `name` key is meant for the name of a feature or object on the map, not a description. See osm.wiki/Names#Names_are_not_for_descriptions Likewise I've deleted "random pond" and "CKRC" from the track at the Strathmore Motorsports Park. I've added `operator=Calgary Kart Racing Club` to the motorsports park and a separate node for the club itself. See changeset/184552399 And no, mapping Alberta is not my job, it's just something I do for fun on the side. I'm just an interested local yokel. :)
Hello timuranium, Is there a reason why you made way/1515566162 an 'inner' part of the "Inglewood Migratory Bird Sanctuary" relation? (relation/20699670)
Hi Elkano, Thanks for your contributions, but please note that the name=* key is only meant for a feature's name. It's not meant to be used as a placeholder for a description of the feature. The new arena in Glenmore Athletic Park won't be called "New twin pad arena", so please: don't call it that. There's already a description of what it is under the description=* key. Please review more information on this at osm.wiki/Names#Names_are_not_for_descriptions Thanks

Hello HMeadow, and welcome to OpenStreetMap. :) When you made these changes—adding some sidewalks, moving the location of the H-Mart at Nuera/Alura condos on Macleod Trail—you also *deleted* this townhouse building under construction: way/780300333 I know you're new to OSM, but please by mindful of deleting things. According to the changeset summary above you used the iD editor with Bing satellite imagery, and the Bing satellite imagery is *not* the most up-to-date in Killarney. The site in question is just a pile of dirt on the satellite imagery, but in reality there is a new building there.

Superfluous *and erroneous*, I ought to have said.
Hello skittles, Does "random motocross track" actually exist?
FYI there is a shop=cannabis tag for use with shops that sell cannabis products. I don't partake, but as far as I know Four20 stores don't carry any tobacco products. I don't use Organic Maps; maybe this is just a limitation of that software? *shrug*

Whoops, sorry; not that changeset, this changeset: changeset/183190762

Further explanation of my rationale: the park is commonly known simply as "Balmoral Circus", and has been so for decades and decades. The aforementioned City webpage says "Balmoral Circus Park" twice, while it says "Balmoral Circus"—no "Park"—a six times. The title of the page itself is "Balmoral Circus"; the url reads ".../BalmoralCircus/". It's "Balmoral Circus" throughout this CBC article: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/calgary-balmoral-circus-urban-park-1.7020013 It's "Balmoral Circus" throughout this article from Heritage Calgary: https://www.heritagecalgary.ca/heritage-calgary-blog/balmoralcircus It's "Balmoral Circus" in this project page from the website of the architecture firm that worked on the redesign: https://dialogdesign.ca/projects/balmoral-circus-redesign/

Oops. 😬 Thanks for fixing this.
Oops, this was my bad. I neglected to update the addr:street tag. :| My apologies! That said, I'm going to change the name back to 'Zyn', from 'ZYN'. See osm.wiki/Names#Proper_name_spelling

Hello, You dropped the speed limit here from 60 km/h to 50. Do you have a source for this? I've lived in Calgary my whole life, and 16th Ave between 21st Street and 6th Street has been 60 km/h for decades. (When I was a teenager I remember being chastised by a driving instructor for letting the car coast down the hill westbound and gather speed >60...) Now I'll grant you I haven't driven this stretch of 16th in a couple months, so maybe it had dropped. However, if you don't have a source I'm going to change this back. Thanks :)
Hello, I have deleted your 'Bitcoin market' because it violates OpenStreetMap's guidelines. Please see osm.wiki/Good_practice#Don't_map_temporary_events_and_temporary_features
I also updated the network tags for several bus routes, and deleted the superfluous numbers in their names.
Your source is a 17-year-old conceptual map from the "Calgary Transportation Plan", developed from the "Plan It Calgary" initiative undertaken by the City about 20 years ago. The Calgary Transportation Plan has since been merged into Volume 3 of the Municipal Development Plan, and said "Road & Street Network Map" was superseded by an updated map in 2020, which itself has been amended five times in the past three years. I haven't done a detailed review of the changes made here, but as a general warning: don't trust a 17-year-old planning map as a source...

Is this actually the case? All the aerial imagery still shows the path is there, and the development permit drawings for the new house on Baroc Road (https://dmap.calgary.ca/?p=DP2024-07973) still very clearly show the path is outside the houses' property lines. Triple-checking this against the Alberta Spatial Information System, it confirms the path between 5611 and 5607 Buckboard Road is a public right-of-way, while the space between 5704 and 5628 Baroc Road is a separate property.
