State of the Go Map!!

I used the names OSMiOS and Cosmic. They still appear as editors on my HDYC page.

Mapping while taking a walk.

Hometown clean up: Great Bend, PA and vicinity

Welcome, all contributions are appreciated!

OpenStreetMap Standard Layer: Introduction

Very interesting. I had to go read https://github.com/openstreetmap/mod_tile#tile-serving to get an understanding of the role of mod_tile but it’s clear now.

My question is whether Render DB uses the normal OSM database schema or does it use one specialized for rendering?

Review of StreetComplete mobile app usage in the Ireland osm community

If someone were being paid to port and maintain the app I’d favor doing so as a web app, so it’s device agnostic. I don’t know how that would affect the work estimate.

What a mess!!

Looks good now. Thanks n76!

The state of Anchorage, Alaska on OSM

Awesome work!

Indoor rooms

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Simple_Indoor_Tagging is probably the most popular tagging scheme for indoor mapping.

MapComplete theme for campers

Was it intentional to not support the tourism=camp_site tag as well?

Sorry / Bad choice of words

Dude, you don’t need to see a person to discriminate against them: just post a sign saying “Croatians not appreciated” for example. It’s easy to offend and demotivate a particular segment of the population without naming individuals.

A Call to Take Action and Confront Systemic Offensive Behaviour in the OSM Community. (Updated)

The proposed changes will have a small impact on a tiny fraction of current OSM participants while greatly expanding the pool of new participants. That seems like a fair trade off.

OpenStreetMap Cartographic: A client-side rendered OpenStreetMap Carto

If I understand correctly this is strictly a client-side endeavor, but in order to contribute it requires setting up a server with fairly hefty storage and performance, and also expertise with Tilekiln. Is there any way to make it easier to contribute to just the client side, allowing contributors to focus on the meat of the project?

About: Large volume of small edits

Small edits are great! I often do the same thing.

A Local Mappers API

If you’re using iOS you can get this information from Go Map!! under Settings - Nearby Mappers.

Disputed boundary tagging sprint (2019-03)

This is really valuable and an amazing effort.

Fuzhou, Fujian China

Agreed, if nothing else please upload a GPS trace of your travels.

The most surreal and memorable OSMF board meeting yet

Thanks for relaying the details on the board meeting since I don’t follow them otherwise.

I’ve never worked for a mapping company but I do appreciate the contributions that companies like Mapbox, Microsoft and many others make to support OSM and improve our open map. I believe it’s possible to have a mutually beneficial relationship and I welcome their ideas, while also recognizing the need to be true to our open data vision.

Problems with level

Yes, this is spot-on. It’s confusing having to convert elevator/directory floor 3 to level 2. And many buildings are built on a grade and have entrances on multiple levels, so it makes the definition ambiguous whatever choice is made.

Mapping in St Albans, VIC

I always find the mapping of these densely packed urban areas to be both challenging and rewarding.
