I'm satisfied knowing that you've given it a great deal of thought and you're not just plopping stuff in. I know how I'd do it (lean toward simple) but I'm sure someone will have a technical reason to keep it complicated.

It looks like you're nearly duplicating the geometry of coastal islands and setting them as nature reserves with the same name. Have you considered just adding the nature reserve tag to the island? It would be far cleaner.

The old GNIS import (source of the node you merged) labeled every body of water as a 'reservoir', which the wiki defines as "An artificial body of water", which this isn't. Assuming you're doing many of these, lean toward distrusting the older elements, the only data of value on them is the 'gnis:feature_id' tag.

aerial imagery shows stop lines in both directions on this segment, but maybe the imagery is old? Having this one way (going south) would make it difficult to go from Hosmer Pond to Melvin Heights. I wonder if this segment is two-way, but you intended to edit the segment to the right of it instead?
