Changeset When Comment

Welcome to OSM! I see you added the tag name="Former Right Aid" but I'm sure that's not the name of this place. I've updated it to old_name="Right Aid" which is what I think you were trying to communicate.

Thanks for adding this house. Last year I added all the address points in Maine as place-holders for buildings. When you add a building (and put the address details on it) please feel free to delete the address node. Please ask if you have questions. -Alex

Thanks for adding this pond. I see the tag name=unknown and I'm guessing that you don't know the ponds name but what you did was give it the name "unknown". If you don't know the name it would be better to not add a name tag.

Welcome to OSM and thanks for adding this fort! I'm wondering about the access=yes tag that you used which implies that anyone is welcome here. I visited this fort and I think there were "stay out" signs but my memory isn't what it used to be. Why did you choose access=yes? -Alex

There are a few things about this change which I don't love. But mostly having features connected to unrelated features (forest to town) is just making everything harder for future mappers. I'd like to discuss alternatives if you plan to do more of this.

This (and other edits in the area) have put the tag "land_area=admistrative", which seems like a mis-pelling of "administrative". Please let me know if this was on purpose, if you can fix it, or if you'd like help fixing it.

I'm curious why add these? Also, is there a data-source for the name tag? Seems you used the town name as the station name.
This came up because searching for <town name> returns train stations (which don't exist yet).

Note to self, since all of these were imported with un-expanded suffixes, check to see if any of them are still are version 1.

You are correct that there is no street sign and that there are no addresses associated with the street. Most unusual!

Regarding Aspen Road (way/886140090), I'm very curious where you get your road names from. I've fixed it to Aspen Drive based on the street sign and Maine Department of Transportation data.

I've reverted your change (Deleting Humanity Way) because there is a car-worthy path here, and it does have an official name according to the state of Maine (see official data source here: https://www.maine.gov/mdot/mapviewer/). In the future, consider improving tags instead of deleting an element. Please ask if you have questions. -Alex

You labeled way/747451914 as access=private. We use that tag when there is a no-trespassing sign, or a gate. I haven't been to this location so I can't tell, but if there isn't signing or a barrier but you're trying to say that it's not owned by the town, consider the tag ownership=private instead.

Welcome to OSM. it looks like you accidentally dragged node/7185043147 (a house) a few blocks away. I'm putting it back where it was, please let me know if you moved it on purpose.

Thanks for mentioning your reference. I don't see a street sign which is disappointing. It seems this is a good use for the alt_name tag (which I'll add adding with a note). To leave a paper trail, here's an article about the parking garage on the west of the street, naming it the "Dickman Street Garage": https://web.archive.org/web/20200224175014/https://www.centralmaine.com/2020/02/23/study-recommends-augusta-charge-hourly-for-downtown-water-street-parking/

Thanks for the nature reserve edits. I usually try not to connect areas to roads (like you did in this edit) because it makes it more annoying to make changes to either element in the future.

I'm wondering why you've changed this street name (do you have a reference for the new name)? I'm changing it back to what the Maine Department of Transportation says it is. (see https://www.maine.gov/mdot/postedroads/map/)

I see you changing highway=unclassified to highway=residential. The difference between them is subtle, and I don't pretend to know when to use which, nor do I care much. But it seems you are in a slow edit war with user tmerc58 over this. I thought I'd tell you in case you didn't realize it. It would probably be good to send him a message and chat about it, or comment on one of this changesets. I'm happy to help in any way I can. An example: way/11528117/history

Thanks for adding buildings and merging in the addresses. Head's up, whatever process you're using here is producing odd building tags. See way/905183250 which replaced node/7242699877. Node had building=detached. Way has building=yes;detached. If there is already a building tag, and you'd add building=yes, try to just keep the existing tag. This changeset could use some touch-up for that issue.
