Nils Larsen, a Norwegian sea captain, is most known for his Antarctic excursions. Larsen was born in Sandar, Norway, and after getting his master’s degree, he worked for a shipping firm before becoming a well-known whaler. Nils Larsen not only led a number of his own ships, but he also served as a first mate on Norvegia trips to Antarctica. During this scientific mission, Norway finally gained annexation of Bouvet Island and Peter I Island. Larsen was the first person to set foot on the island.
