If your GPS has an SD-card then you can set the tracklog to 'overwrite when full' and in the advanced tracklog settings 'write tracklog to SD-card' then you can log continuously until the SD-card is full without fear of losing data.

When you've configured the GPS in this way then there's no need use the 'save tracklog' function on the GPS anymore, this function will also compress the tracklog to 500 points causing data loss.

Devices without SD-card should have the tracklog interval set in such a way that it can track the entire trip. Switching from a 1 sec interval to 2 will double the tip time before the tracklog is full. Also here applies: don't use the 'save' function, it will cause data loss.

OpenPisteMap

Hi Steve, great initiative to create a piste map!

I happened to visit the Verbier/Quattre Vallees area two weeks ago and added/improved whatever I could despite some recording problems with my borrowed GPS equipment.

Some ideas for the map:
- Height lines (like on the cycle map (www.gravitystorm.co.uk/osm)
- Show restaurants and other useful POI's like toilets etc.

Keep up the good work!
