I’m John, a Linux programmer based near Cambridge, UK.

My user name is the English translation of the Irish placename Cnoc na Goirtíní, where I lived for seven years.

I started by mapping the village where I live, and some areas where friends and relatives are, worked outwards from those.

Then I started doing some HOTOSM mapping, and picked up Senegal as an under-mapped place to work on, and got involved in mapping Tirana and then other parts of Albania.

I’m also interested in infrastructure; I’ve been mapping powerlines, and pipelines when I can spot them.
