This alleged cycle path is obstructed at regular intervals by cycle restrictor gate and barriers which force the rider to dismount.

Most of it is in a dark and secluded former railway cutting and many people feel too vulnerable to use it.. as the locality has a bad reputation for crime and anti social behaviour.

Fletcher road is a quieter route for bikes to avoid Ribbleton lane.. although the Western End is an Industrial estate with some heavy vehicles, and the through route involves ignoring one way signs.
