Hi Skipperoo. In this section of Princes Highway, the roads are known as Lonsdale Street.

According to the Australian Tagging Guidelines (osm.wiki/Australian_Tagging_Guidelines/Roads#Dual_Road_Naming), it's best to use the local name (as used for addressing) as the primary name, and put the larger name as the Alternate name

Hey Scotty! Merry Xmas and Happy New Year. :)

With this edit here, I'd suggest that the name you've entered isn't correct: it implies that the carpark itself is named St Helena Secondary College.

I have changed it so that the operator field is St Helena Secondary College, which captures the information better, in my opinion.

Happy to discuss further if you'd like. :)

Hello,

Could you please confirm what your source is for these changes? I can't find any reference to Talwingee anywhere, and your population appears to come from a Belarus?

Hi icttd,

Thanks for your contributions around the Western Port Highway.

I've adjusted your edit, as you've inadvertently converted the section of the road into a "link" road. Link roads are more suitable to on ramps and off ramps, rather than main carriageways.

Hi 8BBMI2P497,

Thank you for your contribution to the map.

So you are aware, when entering addresses, there is no need to enter the address as a "name". Further, the suburb should not be in capitals, and just VIC for the state is sufficient.

Happy Mapping,

Hi B84PR12K52,

Thanks so much for your contributions. I can see you've put a lot of effort in to improve the way roads are mapped.

Just a minor point, a lot of the roads you're tagging appear to be Service roads, rather than Minor/Unclassified Roads. The difference is subtle, but important. highway=service

Happy Mapping.

Hey Stevo,

I see you've changed a section of Camp Road to be a dual carriageway.

Ways should only be drawn separate if there is physical separation. In this case, there is no physical separation between the Gateway and Camp Road.

I've also noticed you've extended out the slip lanes to where the turning lane begins. This is not correct, for the same reason. Instead, the Lane, Change, and Turn keys should be used.

Happy to discuss further if required.

Hi Luc,

As discussed previously, I have removed the names that contradict official sources.

In this change in particular, you also changed the names of some of the tracks from their gazetted, official name to an alternate name.

Hi JonzCode,

Thanks for your contributions in the Springvale area.

Unfortunately, the way that you have modified this turn lane doesn't match the best practice guidelines.

Turn lanes should be indicated using the turn and change keys. turn=*

This is because we don't want to map the highways separately if there is no physical separation.

Hope the links help. I'm happy to discuss any questions you may have. :)

Thanks Ant,

Best of luck to you for resolving this issue. There are a lot of editors who would love to utilise Metromap as well.

129952488 about 3 years ago

Hi Ant!

Unfortunately, the license for MetroMap is incompatible with OpenStreetMap's license, and it cannot be used when contributing to OSM.

Since I informed you of this two months ago, You have continues to contribute a data using this incompatible source. This data may need to be redacted due to license compatibility issues.

A list of compatible sources is here: osm.wiki/Australian_Data_Sources

Thanks for the reply Scotty.

The way the council are using the name is odd, but they use the name in several other places on their website as well.

I'm tempted to email the council and suggest they put up road signs and get the name gazetted, but that's not likely to change things. :)

Happy Mapping!

Hi Scotty,

Where did you get the name Circulatory Road from? I can't find it in any official sources.

I'm also adjusting these back to be suburbs and moving the population to their LGA

Hi Scotty,

Frankston and Dandenong are tagged as suburbs in accordance with the Australian Tagging Guidelines. I've reverted your changes now.

Happy to discuss this further on the mailing list, or discord, if required.

Hi Zak,

Thanks for your contributions to the area.

I notice in this changeset you've changed some of the ways in between Thompsons road to be link roads, even though they are roads in their own right.

Try to limit link roads to channelised turn lanes or other slip roads, rather than roads in intersections generally. osm.wiki/Highway_link

Also, I disagree that Thompsons Road is a trunk road. It is of comparitive less importance than Nepean Hwy and Frankston-Dandenong Road, and Primary would appear to be the most accurate.

Happy to discuss further

Hi Luc,

I've removed the descriptive names from the paths you've added as it doesn't align with best practice.

I've also spent some time repairing your contributions: the paths and roads you are adding don't actually connect to each other, making it impossible to use the data for routing.

For future contributions, please try to ensure that the roads are "snapped" to each other and connected at a node. Happy to discuss further if required.

Luc,

I've tried contacting you a few times.

You appear to be using the name field as a description. This is not correct (osm.wiki/Names#Names_are_not_for_descriptions).

Happy to explain further if required.

Hi.

Again, this is not the correct way of mapping turning lanes that are not physically separated.

In your most recent block it was explained to you many different channels if you want to discuss this further. osm.org/user_blocks/6484

I will continue correcting the extraneous lanes you have added in the meantime.

Hi Scotty.

The segments you've modified at Ninth Avenue aren't correct. Link roads are only for slip roads or channelised turning lanes. In this case, the sections in the median are just extensions of the road and can keep the highway classification. osm.wiki/Highway_link

Also, the u-turn lanes were correctly mapped. Adding a "curve" inaccurately describes the geometry of the road and extends the turn lane beyond the point of physical separation.
