Brannon Finney, Petersburg is a fishing community that suffers when the fishing industry suffers. Finney asserts that “out of the 3000 citizens of Petersburg, I don’t believe there is a single family that does not have at least one member employed in the fishing sector.” If the fishing is poor, the town perishes.

Across Frederick Sound, one can view Devils Thumb’s craggy snow-covered peaks. When Brannon Finney first sees them, she realizes she is approaching her hometown. Soon, old boathouses, fishing vessels, wharves, and vibrant Norwegian-style homes begin to appear. She believes she has done an excellent job and is at ease. Alaskan Girls have returned home.
