asi před rokem | Hi DaveF, I toured most of that building yesterday on an open day and I'm be pretty confident that the entire footprint is all library with lots of quiet study rooms. Both bike parking areas still exist but I only had time to capture capacity of one of them as we were guided around.
před více než 2 lety | I guess it's down to interpretation. From an LBSG post of view it's lamp box design, squatter than a wall box and with slightly curved corners on front face. There are lots of mostly rural lamp boxes that have been embedded into walls and wall mounted lamp boxes are mentioned in the guidance at post_box:type=*. They're presumably cheaper to make than wall boxes and if they're in rural location don't need the capacity of even the modestly larger type c wall box. There are quite a few examples at https://www.flickr.com/groups/1074749@N21/pool/ including my favourite at Durgan. I then follow guidance at post_box:mounting to state if the box is embedded in a wall or not. But there are also a few wall boxes that aren't embedded into walls (e.g. Cowley Bridge, Exeter EX4 251 near me (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Exeter_post_mounted_wall_box.jpg) which is definitely a type b wall box) which I must get around to adding to OSM. I'll happily go either way but at present follow post_box:type=*
před více než 2 lety | Hi Yorvik. I hope you don't mind but can I revert this postbox back to a post_box:type lamp box as I'd say it's definitely a lamp box mounted in a wall similar to image fourth row down second from right (https://lbsg.org/photographs/lamp-boxes/)? I remember mulling over the post_box:mounting when I cycled past there last year and reckoned they'd built a pillar to mount it in, but on reflection would probably just call it an extension of the wall unlike the LBSG example which is definitely a brick pillar built against a stone wall.
před více než 3 lety | Just checked my notes and yes I'd mistyped it. It was 16:45 and I've just corrected it. Thanks for flagging the error
před více než 3 lety | Hi PlymouthWalker. Many thanks for correcting this. I'd last noticed that one on Charlton Road end of last year when driving up to Tavistock.
skoro před 4 lety | I took a photo of the box in store (and could see part of the car park outside in the image) and then used the Street level imagery to work out whereabouts the box was along the front of the store in relation to the car parking aisles. I then used the aerial photography to work out how deep into the store the box was. I reckon I've got it about right as my phone GPS is unreliable indoors
skoro před 4 lety | Here are the recommendations from OpenStreetmap regarding this issue osm.wiki/Why_we_won%27t_delete_roads_on_private_property
skoro před 4 lety | But from a mapping point of view it's important to document what infrastructure is there but mark it as 'private' rather than delete it all, as it'll only reappear again as other mappers think that it is missing. I noticed that a lot has disappeared as the operational (according to https://www.royalmail.com/services-near-you/postbox/haytor-vale-tq13-9xp/00000TQ725) Royal Mail postbox has been deleted which triggers the following page (https://osm.mathmos.net/postboxes/progress/TQ/TQ7/#11/50.2755/-3.7804) to mark it as missing which prompts someone to go and have a look. I'd definitely recommend reinstating and marking as private. Certainly with my mapping I'll mark such infrastructure as private and therefore off limits for surveying.
