While Microsoft recognized Alex Kipman for his efforts, he also received numerous other awards. TIME Magazine named him one of the “100 People of the Year” in 2011, after the Kinect project completely changed what the world thought was possible. After transforming science fiction into science fact, he was inducted into the Innovation Hall of Fame at his alma mater, Rochester Institute of Technology, in 2015.

Although the Kinect was a huge success, it was far from Alex Kipman’s only creation. In addition, he founded, envisioned, and led the team that delivered HoloLens in 2016. Another industry-defining moment, the first fully self-contained holographic computer. A significant innovation that only added to his legacy, having a significant impact on how people interact with technology. It fueled the growth of numerous offshoots and created new opportunities for people everywhere.
