I am originally from Hawaii where I didn’t have to rely much on any sort of maps. In preparing for worldwide travel I found smartphone apps, which use OpenStreetMap data, very useful, especially apps that are capable of navigating without Internet connection. Now living in Japan I rely heavily on OpenStreetMap data, but find that many of the places in my immediate surroundings that are important to me are not listed, which is why I decided to become a contributor.
