I'm not sure if trail junctions need to be mapped unless there is a physical marker present. If there is, then you can add a guidepost https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:information%3Dguidepost or a route marker https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:information%3Droute_marker
I'm not aware of any standardized tag for named trail junctions.

In this case, the much older tail went straight ahead onto private property.

I see you have a description that sounds like a guidepost on the junction node. Could you make a changeset that removes the motorway=junction tag and replaces it with a guidepost? The link I posted in my earlier comment should guide you in how it needs to be tagged.
