Hello,
This looks very much like a mechanical edits. Can you point to where it was discussed with the wider OSM community?
Best Regards,
Andy

Bonjour,
Cela ressemble beaucoup à un montage mécanique. Pouvez-vous indiquer où cela a été discuté avec la communauté OSM au sens large ?
Cordialement,
Andy

Hello,
I think I get your point, but I had not and I woudn't consider that as a mechanical edit. I started with translation in french of diplomatic objects when I realized that embassies were (for exemple) tagged amenity=diplomatic or consulates tagged office=embassy. Then I have open different maproulette challenges in order to have contributors to check one by one the objects wtih "embass", "ambass", "consul" in their "name" or "name:fr" tag. and put the tags according to the wiki.
Do you consider as well that systematically adding the country code is a mechanical edit ? Or that, checking the name of the object and, if this is an embassy, replacing office=embassy with office=diplomatic+diplomatic=embassy is a mechanical edit ?
I did myself a good part of the work, often leaving a note asking to check if there is really an embassy or a consulate in this place. I never felt doing an automatic work.To come back to this changeset named "add diplomatic=embassy + embassy=mission", I remember that I was looking for "name~europe" in diplomatic objects to tag them "mission". Certainly this node nearby : https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/2651692631
I didn't add "mission" but rather "residence" as suggested by the wiki. Does it look automatic ?
Best regards. -

Looking at the projects linked to from https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/maproulette-request-for-comments-liking-and-flagging-challenges/5838/5 ,
27058, 26992, 26991, 26976, 26851 and 26850 look like genuine attempts to improve the data.
24298, 24297, 24296 and 24295 look like just trying to change one set of tags for another.
For example, https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:diplomatic%3Dhigh_commission is documented as an in-use tag in the OSM database.
The tagging list was contacted https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2022-January/thread.html#63778 and it was made clear to you that this WAS a mechanical edit. You ignored this and went ahead anyway.

These modifications have never been done "without consideration of each change". For me, they are definitely NOT automatic. Obviously for you, they are, but please accept the fact that I totally disagree with that.
We could discuss the fact that I was following sentences like "amenity=consulate is formally deprecated, and should be replaced with updated tags as per office=diplomatic." written in the page https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:diplomatic%3Dconsulate
Or a sentence like "This tag can be replaced by the approved proposal for office=diplomatic + diplomatic=embassy + embassy=high_commission" in the page https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:diplomatic%3Dhigh_commission
And I did these changes after looking on each object, one by one, adding or modifying by the way other suggested tags in the wiki, moving sometimes the node on the building, or leaving a note because an embassy was twice in the same city.
I know that the wiki is not a bible, but is it a mistake to follow it ?

To be clear, the wiki page https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposal_process says "a vote result is never permission for large-scale re-tagging of existing objects. See automated Edits code of conduct for more about this topic"
See https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct for what you should do before any automated edit (and yes, the maproulette tasks as written (change tag x to tag y) were nothing more than automated edits.
The wiki is unclear on many things, but on this it makes it very clear that what you did was wrong.
I've re-opened the discussion on the tagging list, and have suggested what might be the best steps forward. I suggest that you comment there.
