What application were you using to get iPhone tracks? I'm using MotionX - this has an option to use accelerometer or not, which does indicate that you might get divergent results with iPhone. In general I believe I'd probably trust my Garmin more.

Also try MotionX GPS. It uses OSM Mapnik tiles as a slippy map, and also supports tracklog saving for use in OSM. It's what I've always wanted on an iPhone, and I only found it accidentally.

Hey, thanks for the MotionX recommendation! I've never noticed it before, and I've been looking for an iPhone app which uses the OSM slippy map for ages. And it is indeed a very nice application.

Hopefully this is an indication of how well Openstreetmap can be kept up to date in the future, when areas have been fully mapped. Will people be keeping an eye on their local area, monitoring new developments? It's certainly the case here in Cambridge at any rate!
