Mappetizer Travel Diary

Awesome! I need to dig into this some more :) Thanks

free ebook

Yup... as the maps bet better we'll be able to publish a free map-book on demand :)

New map-creation functionality in OpenOrienteeringMap

Wow! That is awesome work!
I just made a quick map of my area.
Brilliant!

I wish i knew the technical workings behind that to customize it.

Again,
Great Work!

OpenStreetMap Points of Interest in Google Earth

Thats AWESOME.
I have it overlayed with the kml OpenStreetMap overlay set to 25% transparency from http://www.mgmaps.com/kml/

What the GIS world thinks of OSM

Perhaps showing walkingpapers.org and asking the 'professional' to help make it look better :)
... here's what i did. I'm sure a professional can do something better.

Pointing out the negatives is certainly much easier than taking time to learn what all is possible.

Apparently, even as the OSM tools get better, there is still that learning curve that people need to go through to fully understand the foreign concept of 'sharing data'

Land Information Onfario - Trails Sample

I removed the trails since that surface tag wasn't added, and more thought needs to be put into the tagging and conversion process :)

GeoBase Import of 082L

Awesome! and i see you updated the Canada Data Import chart too. Thanks.

Dear OSM users : trac.openstreetmap.org

Interesting, i guess it's just listed as a 'rough estimate'.
Since there are multiple venues for collecting user input, it's not possible to keep it all recorded in the same place.

Healthware & OSM-Atlas both at v1.0

Awesome! It's great to see that OSM-Atlas! i saved it, so it's on my list to figure out how to make it work.
Great job!

unsolicited map advert

That's an interesting use of OSM, would be great if MLS (multiple listing service) used OSM as the slippy map, with a custom render of property boundaries. Is there one out there already?
I would think a tag of building=yes, area:meters2=213 would be appropriate.
I think eventually we will be showing the property boundaries if not already. .. maybe some tag proposals need, im not sure.
(provided that the area was physically calculated of course)

... but ya, did you already contact this user?

Pacific Crest Trail

actually jumping ahead of myself, the PCT connects with the KVR at Midway, BC. ... but still part of my "Across Canada Trails" projects. :)

Pacific Crest Trail

Hi, yes!
The trail actualy continue up the coast. ... hopefully over to Vancouver island, and take the VI Spine trail up to the start and connect with the National Hiking trail. vispine.n

I would recommend NOT uploading it, but creating an .osm file, and attach the proper attribution. Just have the file available, so then those who work on it. Attaching the relation to existing trails can do so. (considering that all long distance trails are technically ROUTES that go from one local trail to the next via roads), rather than the traditional meaning of 'trail'.

Feel free to email me acrosscanadatrails@gmail.com and we can chat further About it.

cheers,
Sam

Gozimmer.net

Hi, not exactly sure what your asking. But OpenSteetMap and google Maps are 2 completly different maps. Check out www.bikemap.net and you have the option at the top right corner of the map to choose OpenStreetMap or OpenCycleMap.

Unless your talking about Google MapMaker, where in some countries you can edit Google Maps. However, for the edits that are made with Google MapMaker, they become property of Google. Where as, with OpenStreetMap, when editing the map, it remains open for everyone to use ccBYsa.

Hope that helps,
Sam

Sydney Mapping Party weekend before FOSS4G

Cool,
Although i cant make it, i might go to Sidney, BC that day as there is a mini-opera house (band shell) that needs to be mapped. And i'll try walking-papers.org as i think i'll be able to connect with other local area mappers for it.

Should OSMF be a Community Interest Company?

Interesting, similar to how im looking at a "WikiMAP Book" as the intention is to be creating a usable community produced book, which from the core is designed by the community, using the tools of sharing with Lulu.com publishing, and Google Docs, and mailing lists.

As there is no need for others to create competative map-books, since everyone can work together who wants to make a physical book better.

...
Ya i dont know, as "advocating for freeing data" is something that the foundation does by nature. Although it's individuals who contact the various agencies and simply ask. ... where in many cases, the governments see the merrit of "sharing data created from public funds", then just release it for us to create a one-off copy importing it, then improving on it once its imported.

Worth some discussions. :)

Strange flood near Abbotsford

Ya, that has todo with the coastline. Somewhere the coastline was probably broken. Once the proper landuse tags, and all the canvec data gets imported, it should be much better.
Also, the planet.osm file does diffs, rather than render the whole planet at once. I suspect it should be gone in a few weeks. (hopefully)

Cheers,
Sam

OpenStreetMap on Android

That's cool. I subscribed to that RSS Feed of the blog so i'll be up-to-date on the development.
Great News!

more mapping and hair pulling

I just had a quick look at the area. Looks good :)

IMO your tagging method seems fine :)
ie. signs that say "don't walk on grass' are clearly not parks. :) (you'd think that there should be a glass barrier over the grass lol. ... or spray paint the pavement green... :)
