Vegagerðin (The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration) has put up temporary measures to prevent traffic to turn left from Hafnarvegur and onto Reykjanesbraut. According to an announcement, Vegagerðin intends to produce a traffic island as a more permanent measure. The announcement also mentions a ban on left turn traffic from Reykjanesbraut onto Hafnavegur but is a little more ambigious whether those measures will be temporary during installation of said measures or permanent. I've sent them an e-mail asking for clarification and await their answer.
The left turn has been added again after personal observation.
