So I think you mean that this line (link below) needs to be divided into two, then named differently north and south of Crichton Street? That would be the process. Cut the line in two at Crichton Street. Add the tag 'name' with the value 'Chapel Street' on one, and 'name' with 'Potterrow' on the other. Or confirm that this is what you need and someone can do this for you in a few seconds.

That's correct. I just don't know how to divide that line into two. I would like to know though. This would be handy for other streets too.
Assuming you're viewing notes on openstreetmap.org - click the 'Edit' button (choose the ID editor if you see a choice). Zoom to and click the road. Hover the mouse above the exact node (look for the dots) where the road should be divided. Click it. Click the scissors icon which appears. Then add the names separately to each section. Then click 'save'. Message me if you need more.
