Why do you record not your changes to the Forum or the mailing list? I miss a list of proposed changes since changeset http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/44987328
All massive changes on trees are not discussed!!!

Hi,
I've been very active in the past on mailing lists, mainly in French, but also in English, a pity, never in German.
But I'm a little tired of talking today : what can I do with that : https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=628958It seemed to me obvious that normalizing the names in e.g. the bad import of Bucarest (All names in capital letters : QUERCUS ROBUR -> Quercus robur), or in an other bad import (QRo -> Quercus robur), or this other one (genus=Quercus, species=Robur -> Quercus robur) decreasing the number of variants of the same species (quercus robur, Quercus Robur, quercus_robur, Q. robur... -> Quercus robur; Tilia x europaea, tilia x europaea, Tilia X europaea, Tilia europaea, tilia europaea, tilia europea, Tilia Europaea, T. europaea, TILIA EUROPAEA... -> Tilia × europaea; Coconut, coconut trees, Coconut palm, cocos nucifera, cocos nuciferra, Cocos Nucifera... -> Cocos nucifera; names given in Japanese, Korean -> species:ja, species:ko and normalized name in species) would strengthen the database, and make the species tag a little more useful. And there is still too much to be done.
Mechanical ? Oh, yes ! I just have written a little script in python that eliminate the normalized forms from all the values of the species tag. It does not even sort this list. All is hand made : searching the web, downloading the objects, changing the values, uploading. A very, very big job...
If it had been mechanized, it would certainly have been much more verbose in the comments.OK, those minor changes (one tag affected, often one letter, only) affect sometimes numerous points, and all over the world..
OK, I have grouped the upload at the beginning with very few explanations (it seemed to me so obvious : see http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/2130090721/history or http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/2828044480/history ).I've been blocked. OK. I accept it.
Some changesets have been reverted by Stereo_repair, saying : "Reverted mechanical edit..." referring to a German discussion. Let me say that he worked stupidly. Look at, for example, in this changeset : http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/45691307 , the history of http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/3546927/history
Or http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/521397711/history ... It is obvious that the changeset was not mechanical... And that some asked for a revert a little to fast. And that Stereo did it without more sight. No discussion ? Where is the discussion I could take part before blocking ? Before reverting ? Witch mail ?
Easy to say what is wrong... Did somebody noticed the improvement of the database (I cant understand the German) ?
I'm tired now... -

Good evening...
Ok, the child fell into the well... (german proverb).
Also I have great interest, that the plants name are correct. Your idea was very good.
Let us sort it.
First of all: please write the changes that you've written here, also o a new site in a table at the OSM-WIKI with corresponding links. Please document any future changes to this page.
Send a link to the site to the mailinglist and the best here and to me.
Least a please to changesetcomment: write here exactly the content: e.g.
change "quercus robur, Quercus Robur, quercus_robur, Q. robur... to Quercus robur" or similar.Supplementary:
Here a change which I have problems:https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/2130264647/historyIn the history we have the genus Platanus but we don't have the species platanus × hispanica. We have only the name:it. In my opinion a local name is not enough for the species-Tag
Finally the name with the following pages should be reconciled:
http://www.ipni.org/ipni/plantnamesearchpage.do
and/or
http://www.theplantlist.org/
These should also be documented with a link to the main-site.Strictly speaking, the name should be written always with name author: e.g. Platanus × acerifolia ( Aiton ) Willd.
Thank you for your comment. We get it already on the right track.

My mistake may come from :
species:it =Platano comuneand https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platane_commun that say : Platanus ×hispanica
But also https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platanus gives : Platanus acerifolia (Aiton) Willd. - platano comune

And more : in the Bologna import, the (usualy) 3 letters value of species tag is an abbreviation of the binomial name. So Pla = *Pl*atanus *a*cerifolia = Platanus × hispanica

Bonjour FrViPofm,
Si tu veux, on peut parler en Français et/ou en privé.
I'm delighted to see that a conversation has begun. Your massive edits aren't a bad idea, and I hope that you won't let the DWG's block discourage you.
You *must absolutely* discuss these massive edits first, especially to avoid this kind of mistakes.
Please get in touch with the DWG when you're ready to do that, and we'll be happy to unblock you.
Happy mapping,
Guillaume

Good evening FrViPofm.
I think it is quite important that you write the documentation. That brings peace and others know what you've done. Is it not more.
The genus Platanus....
I think the genus Platanus seems to be a very specific genus with various errors in the names of plants.
There are recovery sayings between http://www.ipni.org/ipni/advPlantNameSearch.do?find_family=&find_genus=Platanus and http://www.theplantlist.org/1.1/browse/A/Platanaceae/Platanus/
At the moment, I think Platanus acerifolia (Aiton) Willd. is the accepted name. Synonym names are Platanus hispanica Münchh. or Platanus × hispanica Mill. ex Münchh. or Platanus hispanicus Münchh.
You can see the names on the website-links.But i'm not really sure what make the taxonomists.
Finally, it shows the general problem of the name. I don't see a real solution. One can however use a name and set a link to wikidata: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q161374
e.g. species:wikidata=Q161374greetings,
Sven
