WOF#7. Import guidelines

This generally looks good to me. I would suggest moving check license a bit higher up the list though to save wasting time converting data if it it not possible to use it.

Also it might be worth putting talk-country@ more explicitly in the Discuss section.

First test

This is normal. Potlatch isn’t very clear about opening and closing changesets. Potlatch will automatically open a new changeset when you click save, any times you click save after this will add the new changes to the same changeset. Then if you leave the editor the changeset will not be closed, it will eventually time out and by closed by the server. Opening the editor again will put it in a clean state so it will create a new changeset as you saw.

If you want to manually close a changeset then you can use the “c” shortcut in Potlatch.

The map display sometimes takes a while to update, also your browser will normally cache the tiles. So to see your changes you should wait a few minutes and then refresh the page using F5 or possibly Shift-F5. Sometimes if the server is busy then it can take longer to update the tiles, and tiles which are zoomed out update less frequently.

Cul-de-sac

Add a new way for the T junction with the same tags as the rest of the road. There are many cases when a road is split into several ways so anyone using the data has to cope with multiple ways being used for the same road.

I have set myself a task

Welcome to OSM. I mapped a nature reserve near me in detail when a friend was planning some orienteering around the place. I found that for some of the details I wasn't s sure about the tagging but what I did is at http://osm.org/go/eu6RESTo if it helps you at all. I first traced all the obvious features (lake, paths) from the Bing imagery and then took a printed copy of this and filled in the detail.

United Kingdom Long Distance Paths

Wow, that has improved it a lot and must have been a lot of work. Thank you.

Floating Islands

Even if there aren't clearly defined paths on the ground it might be worth adding some for routing and to clarify for people looking at the map that they can walk across the area.

I think this is valid because the map is representing reality since people will walk this route, just the path happens to be wide and indistinct in reality.
