Anybody any idea why JOSM has chosen to show this residential road in dotted lines ? Nothing special about it, except that someone has seen fit to fill in a load of pointless parameters (tunnel=0, layer=0, bridge=0 etc)

Just delete these excess tags and see whether it gets better. Also please inform that user who added these meaningless tags (otherwise you might see more such roads in the future).

click the map key on the left and match it to the type of way that is shown. If it is incorrect fix it.

I went and deleted the extraneous tags. someone noted there was a gate at the south end of the street, so I tagged it as a gate with bike and pedestrian access (sorry for armchair mapping and making assumptions about your neighbourhood
)
