@RobJN Maybe free hand drawing would be useful.

@AndiG88 As long as you don’t put them in the Notes interface. But Sure it could be put in somekind of maproulette stile. There are lots of efforts in doing tasks like that for OSM. None are perfect I guess.

@flohoff It’s not very usefull to find notes in German on your hometown which will be corrected in a day or two with a complete remap of an area.

@osmthis as described here is actually no anonymous but a good example of rule 3, “a not should be specific mappable fact”(which I guess I should change to rule 1).

The same would be nice to have on facebook etc.

Saludos 123sese!

¿Realmente se llama “KERRERA 74A”? Me parace un poco chistoso. :-) (Pero no hablo mucho Castellano, entonces hay muchas cosas que me parace chistoso). Espero que te vayas bien en Openstreetmap.

Thoughts on the Task Manager HOTOSM uses

Where is 2.0? Couldn’t find it on github.

I just wish you could see the task you are working on in JOSM, both visually as a box, and as a link to the website.

Documenting Tags

Well you are free to add categories that says "Category:Has been voted on","Category:Proposal and voting missing" to the tags in the wiki. I'm not quite sure what you mean so it's not something I can do for you.

OSM/OSMF has become a farce

"You're just making yourself part of the problem."

I believe that attitude is the problem. :-( I've seen out of the remappings on OWL a couple of them are clear copy and paste. Now it's ok legally in these cases, but the users doing those "remappings" can't know that.

That said I don't think netman55 should quit.

Using start_date and end_date

@Edloach: Yeah built_date is interesting, but when working with houses in a city you will have some buildings which have been rebuilt..

Using start_date and end_date

@Zverik Maybe opening_date is interesting, but there are not docs on it. Do you mean that you tag ongoing works with opening_date=* to signify when the construction works are supposed to be finished and the road will be open for traffic?

@balrog-kun: Since that use of end_date is not possible at the moment, I've used it to leave a reason why I delete something. So I might do this:
1. tag "way 12345" with end_date=2011-09
2. upload
3. delete "way 12345"

or as I did above
1. tag landuse=construction with end_date and start_date
2. when end_date comes change the tags to be playground without an end_date

This makes it possible to have different versions, if you use history extracts.

I don't know where those ":ata_*" keys are documented, and I'm not much for bot deletion, since construction projects, as many other kind of projects, tend to be delayed.

RAMANI KATIKA MAKAZI HOLELA ZINAONEKANAJE?

I'm using Google translate to read your comment. Well one can hope so at least, but I think the maps need to be a lot more detailed (Even though it's an amaxzing map so far).

Just a question do all the Mosques have names? Seems that many are tagged Just as name=Mosque ( see here)

Mapping coastlines from Kayak

Indeed imagery is a good way to trace coastlines. Look at the place linked in the story and you will see where the imagery ends, high res images covers less than 1% of the Swedish coast.

Glue Sniffers

landuse=forest on deep forret road, might be correct? Very often the forrest actually extend over the centerline from both sides.

Mapping coastlines from Kayak

@crishcf: well I live in Sweden known for its long coastline and many islands, but I've never experience tidal effects here. Apparently the >Gulf of bothnia tidal effects< are very small, because of the narrow strait connecting us with the North Sea. So max ~20cm in amplitude, but that's in the strait

@liftarn, @alexz: I want better quality than commercial map. But alexz made think that that probably means adding data about the coastlines, not mapping the to a 2 cm precision..

So perhaps I should map, the beach/coast area. So 1. how is the water leading up to the beach (rocks/sand etc) 2. how is the waterfront of the beach 3. what is there after you make landfall.

Very good advice. Now I won't have to improve my RC boat equipped with GPS anymore..

PLEASE FIX THESE MAPNIK BUGS!!

Thanks Ed for posting the link to what I was thinking about, TomH, Firefishy, iandees: WTF why do you even comment?

About names on rivers, it would be nice with some more examples, and perhaps discussing the rationale behind rendering names on riverbanks instead of waterways..

Unconnected ways and other data quality issues

Yes, for major roads it's extremely useful but parks is a mess, all those small footways leading nowhere.. :-) I find the most errors where lots of people have edited.
