Bus Stops

Very useful, thanks. I’ll try and test some QR codes at my local bus stops, and add website tags if they work.

I know of some bus stops where the bus_display_name and bus_speech_output_name differs between the two bus companies that serve them. That adds another layer of complexity!

The unfamiliarity of the name of OpenStreetMap

I’ve often thought part of the problem is the inclusion of the word ‘street’. It can be taken to imply OSM is a subset of maps for a particular use case (getting around towns and cities), rather than the multi-use map we know it to be.

Imagine if Google’s maps were called something like ‘Google Highways Maps’, but still did the same thing. Would as many people know to use it to find a local restaurant? Or, in your case, a hiking trail?

I’m not suggesting changing our map’s name - it’s a strong brand - but I do wonder if we need a simple explanatory strapline, like Wikipedia has.

Something like “OpenStreetMap - the everything map anyone can edit”?!

I've almost developed an alternative to Keypad Mapper 3, Streetcomplete and Osmpad for adding housenumbers

I’ve taken it upon myself to map all (well, most!) of the buildings in my town, and have been a bit daunted by the thought of addressing them afterwards. This tool will be very helpful with doing that.

How about Housemapper?!

Mapping addresses helped find a nine year old mistake in OpenStreetMap (also in Apple Maps, HERE, and TomTom)

Looking at other maps for preparing this entry has made me realise how plain they are and how little information they convey compared to OpenStreetMap.

Ain’t that the truth :)

Better address mapping with the JOSM "Coloured Streets" style

That’s a really good tip, Nick, thanks. I’m slowly (very slowly!) trying to improve and expand the map in my own home town (Letchworth) and this will come in very handy. Indeed, I’ve just looked at my own immediate locale and found a few unnumbered houses I’d missed!

Completing Copmanthorpe

Brilliant stuff. Makes my own area look very one dimensional, and I’m now inspired to sort out at least my own immediate surroundings.

Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, adopts OpenStreetMap as its official tourist map

Fantastic, I visited Kosovo (just for a day from Albania) in March this year. This is just the sort of thing they need.

GSoC 2017 PT_Assistant plugin for JOSM

This is great - there are some issues with cycle routes around my area and this will help me fix them :)

Setting up JOSM

Thanks again @polyglot I’ve had to completely rebuild my system and start again from scratch, so this has been really useful as I’d forgotten many of your tips!

How new HOT mappers can help with the validation process

Just re-read this after a couple of months. Was really good advice when I started out validating HOT tasks!
