OpenStreetMap

First Time

Posted by PhysicsArmature on 14 January 2020 in English (English)

This is my first time on open street maps. I think I just spent 5 hours or so randomly placing things down. Oooffffttttttaaaaa…. This is addicting to do. Now on a serious side I realized I marked the size of houses when their is probably a database someone will import that will do that for me.

I know Reddit is Full of Bots you can summon from summerizing to automod. Imagine the following. Highlight area, bot sees square like objects and creates random markings. You select any non house object and delete it. I hope that made sense. If it did not it is because I stayed up way to late.

imports and anything bot-like without the hands and eyes of Human has yet to come close to what you have envisioned. projection about a decade more before that happens. in the meanwhile, master your editing skills and continue improving. あなたならできる!

Hint: Pros use JOSM josm-tested.jar (version 15553) you may continue digging for other web based editors similar to the one you have used thus far.

It is also possible that there does exist a government layer with the houses. In that case you better use that layer instaed of satellite pictures.

Hi, PhysicsArmature and welcome! Actually, engineers from Facebook developed an OpenStreetMap editor called RapiD (wiki page). It is based on the iD Editor (the one that you have been using) and features AI detections. In principle, you can map just the way you used to but the AI detects missing roads and lets you add them with one click, modify them when necessary and upload them to OSM. Currently the AI only detects roads, but what you described is similar to what this editor can already do. Have fun mapping, cheers Wanderwütiger
