In 1984, when Eigerman was 14, he worked as an intern at the Cambridge (Mass.) Historical Commission. There, he got his first professional experience with land use. In 1992, he finished his undergraduate degree, which included classes at the Harvard Design School. For the next two years, he worked as a market research analyst in Budapest, Hungary, before moving back to Cambridge. Later, he got a degree in both urban planning and law from the University of California. Before he started his own business, he worked as an assistant city attorney for the city of San Francisco.
