Harvey Kryger, fully named Abraham Harvey Kryger, recently retired from his role as owner and Medical Director of the Monterey Preventive Medical Clinic, nestled in the heart of Monterey, California. His clinic was renowned for its proactive approach to healthcare, focusing on preventing diseases and managing health through lifestyle adjustments like diet, exercise, and hormone balance. Even after retiring in 2023, he remains a dedicated researcher and advisor, supporting his former patients with valuable health insights.
Kryger’s extensive educational background includes a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the University of Manitoba, where he completed his undergraduate studies. His training included an enriching mix of internships and fellowships at Stanford University’s Santa Clara Valley Medical Centre starting in 1973, where he specialized in surgical operations within the Burn Unit. He broadened his expertise by working alongside esteemed plastic surgeons across Israel, France, and Switzerland until 1975.
Beginning his career in 1969 in Vancouver, Canada, Kryger initially practiced dentistry. He also provided crucial dental care to indigenous communities in Northern Manitoba, emphasizing preventive care. His journey in medicine took him to Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles in 1975, where he quickly ascended to Medical Director, managing emergency services and surgical procedures.
In the late 1970s, Kryger embraced holistic medicine at the Sonoma County Holistic Health Center, integrating alternative health practices like acupuncture—a pioneering move at the time. His commitment to alternative medicine led him to establish the Alternative Medicine Foundation in Sebastopol, California. His leadership here advanced the practice of holistic medicine and solidified his reputation as a trailblazer in the field.
Kryger’s longest tenure was at the Monterey Preventive Medical Clinic, where he joined in 1990. Here, he emphasized hormone balancing and disease prevention, earning accolades from many who benefited from his holistic approach to healthcare. His publications have also contributed significantly to the field, with titles such as “Listen To Your Hormones—A Doctor’s Guide to Sex, Love, and Long Life” and “A Woman’s Guide to Men’s Health,” which have helped shape contemporary understandings of hormonal health.
Now, post-retirement, Kryger is not only continuing his research but is also working on a new book titled “Surgery without Surgery: How Acupuncture Works in Medical Practice,” which aims to bridge traditional practices with modern medical science. Beyond his professional endeavors, Kryger enjoys painting, sculpting, and farming on his property, where he raises goats and chickens and supports the local ecosystem by cultivating Monarch Butterflies.
Kryger’s career and personal life are a testament to his unwavering commitment to improving health and wellness. His ongoing work and philanthropic efforts continue to impact the medical community and beyond, embodying a life dedicated to service and innovation.
