Balik kampung

Alhamdulillah. Bosan-bosan tu, sambil-sambil tu, ada la juga benda yang boleh dibuat: menambah baik data OpenStreetMap (OSM) kawasan sekeliling rumah.

Mula-mula guna app My Tracks. Macam okey je. Baca-baca forum, GPSLogger "lebih digemari" penyumbang-penyumbang OSM. Tapi belum lagi guna GPSLogger. Mungkin kalau pergi jauh sikit rasanya baru cuba tengok kot.

Apa-apapun dah guna data GPS dalam seminggu ni, kemas kini OSM kawasan Alor Setar dan dekat-dekat Alor Setar la. Cuma buat masa ni ingat kalau boleh nak kumpul banyak-banyak dulu data jejak GPS. Senang sikit. Lagi yakin.

Hehe.

InsyaAllah.

Salam.

Kalau hang berani, tepek atas bumbung kete, tak perlu gps logger pun hehe.

Ok, rajin2 le jengok/participate forum osm malaysia tu, sunyi aje.

Waalaikumussalam. Orang kampung ka... :)

Pakai tab jugak. Tapi lani pakai app OSMtracker. Sambil rempit EX5 tu boleh la tag POI. Hehe.

Orait. InsyaAllah.

Selamat datang ke OSM! Upto there are not many local people engaged in OSM in South-East Asia. Most of the work is done by couch mappers from Western countries, who trace from Bing. Very good that you join us with your local knowledge. From Bing, we cannot trace road numbers/names, place names and all that stuff. That is a lot of work which is still to be done. And GPS traces are also very valuable, often the Bing images are a little off by a few meters. Could you please upload some of your gps traces to OSM and make them available for all of us? Thus we could "correct" the offset of Bing. During my next holidays (December), I'll visit Northern Malaysia, starting from Langkawi, and then go to Kedah, Ipoh, Cameroon Highlands, the jungle, perhaps also Southern Thailand. I hope I can contribute some 1500 km of good traces there after. Have a lot of fun! Regards, Bernhard

Thank you very much!

I would love to upload some of my GPS traces into OSM. However I need to do a few more things before I am ready to upload them. I need to remove some parts of the GPS traces, well, unfortunately, they could be used to reveal my actual house location (so, in short, a particular bit of security concerns, but please tell me if this is too much LOL). Really need your help on this one.

Anyway, I will try to do so. The internet connection here is somewhat intermittent especially a few hours before bedtime (argh!), but that would not really matter much.

So I'm doing my commute with a moped, so my coverage location is not really extended. I will help to cover most of places around Alor Setar.

Please advise me a little bit more, especially if you spotted my mistakes.

For editing GPS files, I wrote my own application. It is not very user-friendly. If you are interested, you can find some hints for the developer at http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/104017/Bernie-s-Trackviewer and a more current version (also with some documentation on how to use it) at http://berniestrackviewer.codeplex.com/ Actually, you could also edit your files in a "normal" text editor like Windows write, and remove a few entries - they all look like <trkpt lat="49.8789601587" lon="11.4358993806"><ele>512.97</ele><time>2013-10-26T16:08:52Z</time></trkpt> I.e they start with a <trkpt and end with a </trkpt>, and you see the time (in GMT).

And do not worry about mistakes: the biggest mistake you could do is: not contributing to OSM.

By the way, there is also an OSM forum at http://forum.openstreetmap.org/ and also a sub-forum for the mappers of Malaysia at http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewforum.php?id=60.

Have a lot of fun! Bernhard
