My March 2021 in OSM

• Mapping
  • I dunno, I just kept mapping, like one should. Mostly StreetComplete and part of OSM Ireland’s building mapping project.
• Tagging
  • The topic of unisex tag on public toilets (amentity=toilets) (osm wiki), on the StreetComplete issue tracker. (fedi/masto post - birdsite/tweet)
    • I have found, I think some problematic retagging, which as of May 2021 I haven’t investigated yet.
• Communication Working Group
  • I posted an envelope of stickers to someone in France as part of the Promotional Material Programme
  • I was at March CWG meeting (minutes)
    • I mentioned the swag
    • I’m going to start a “good beginner tasks” doc for CWG, and posted to the CWG gitlab
• OSMF Board
  • Mid-Month Chat
    • (can’t remember right now what was discussed)
  • Advisory Board
    • Organised the date & time for another meeting of the OSMF Board & OSMF Advisory Board
  • GeOSM
    • This new project from Cameroon, and they want an agreement to use the “OSM” trademark, so I had to review that.
    • The contract was signed and one of the OSMF board members (Jean-Marc Liotier) was in Cameroon to sign it in person (photos on twitter)
  • Local Chapters
    • Stowarzyszenia OpenStreetMap Polska application for Poland
      • Prepped all the docs, and at the March 2021 board meeting, we voted to approve them.
      • I had to sign the docs & send them to them to get a copy
    • 一般社団法人オープンストリートマップ・ファウンデーション・ ジャパン (OpenStreetMap Foundation Japan) application for Japan.

    • FreeMap Slovakia
      • They were accepted as a Local Chapter in the Jan 2021 Board Meeting, but it was only in March that all the paperwork has been sorted out, and AB rep appointed.
    • OpenStreetMap DRC
      • Finally got photo of signed doc, but still waiting on AB rep.
    • MapUganda application for Uganda
      • Continued to research this application, including talking to other community members.
    • Geolibres, our Local Chapter in Argentina
      • I contacted them about appointing a representative to the Advisory Board.
    • Local Chapter Application Template
      • I made a slight tweak to the Local Chapter Application (§10), to make it slightly easier to change & cancel
      • Needed a board circular resoltion to change the template, and another to empower me to offer this to existing LCs.
      • I printed and scanned many versions and started sending to LCs
    • emailed AB & LCCWG about apr presentation
  • Licensing Working Group
    • emailed to tell them our pro-bono counsel was still off sick
  • Local Chapters and Communities Working Group mod subcttee
    • Review the form to collect data, replied with some little bits
      • Pointed out difference between English dialects
      • Simple understanding of “non-binary” corrected.
  • HOT Trademark
    • Board talked to a LWG member about ths current draft
  • 2021 OSMF Community Survey
    • I attended the 3 presentation Allan hosted to explain the survey results
  • QGis & Nom.
    • QGis wants to use the OSMF hosted nominatim servers. The OWG
    • I was unable to vote on this because I have a conflict of interest due to my job
  • Attribution Guidelines
    • The Board emailed a lawyer to ask for advice on the current draft
  • Takeover protection
    • At the last AGM, the membership told the board to investigate paid votes.
    • We spoke to an OSMer who had done some research on this, who gave us a presentation.
    • It was nothing one couldn’t think of before, but still interesting
  • user suspension
