Unable to tell road surface from image. need ground survey.
I'll be updating roads in the area with surface types and speed limits based on today's driving. Other than that, I don't know what we can do to make WA-27 and WA-272 more attractive to routing engines.
I've re-tagged a bunch of roads as "unclassified, gravel", and added speed limits to WA-272 and WA-27. In the absence of a well-recognized "this road not maintained for winter travel" tag, there isn't really anything else I can do.
The fundamental problem is that bypassing Palouse via Frazen/Olsen is two miles shorter than following the state highways, and when the roads are in good condition (which they usually are), it's considerably faster to take the 35 MPH gravel backroads than to go through town at 25 MPH.
