Hi,
I found some destination signs tagged with a strange "destinatuion" tag (that should read 'destination'.
But the value doesn't seem correct either,
the '|' symbol is only used in combination with lanes on roads. I guess here it separates the directions?
You could either use 'direction_west', 'direction_north' etc. to separate them, or use the more complex relations of type=destination_sign.
Let me know if you need help with this!

Hi Jan
I state that I do not read and write the English language well, so I made use of "google translator".
Thanks for letting me know about the "destination" error, this is a typo, I will immediately correct it.
In this regard, the use of hiking tags in Italy is dictated by the CAI, Italian Alpine Club and described in OSM in the following wiki:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/CAI
in particular for the "guidepost" installation sites:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=CAI&vesection=8#Luoghi_di_posa
If you want to deepen the discussion I think it would be preferable to submit the questions to the CAI list.

Sincerely
GianniCiao Jan
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/CAI
in particolare per i luoghi di posa "guidepost":
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=CAI&vesection=8#Luoghi_di_posa
Se desideri approfondire la discussione penso sarebbe preferibile sottoporre le domande alla lista del CAI.

Ciao Gianni,
my Italian isn't good enough either :(The entry in the wiki is old, but it is not compatible with the tagging in other regions.
Let me show you two examples of other signs in Italy. Have a look to the right side of the window, showing the details!

I put the question on the mailing-list
Talk-it-cai@openstreetmap.org
I'll let you know if there are answers"un utente ha lasciato un commento su un mio changest (1) a proposito dell'uso fatto della key=destination. Ho citato la wiki del CAI (2), mi viene risposto che la wiki è vecchia e non è compatibile con la mappatura in altre regioni.
chiedo se c'è qualcuno disposto ad aggiungere commenti al changeset per tentare di redimere la questione (per me è difficile farlo perchè non parlo inglese) o comunque di continuare qui la discussione. Avevo invitato anche l'utente a farlo.
Grazie, Gianni Mistron (gion274)

Hello, the mentioned wiki page is not old, it's actually current and it's followed by Club Alpino Italiano members. Some guidepost may still be done in a different way but slowly we'll fix all of them. We cannot use the destination_east or west because the pipe is used to separate normally 3 destinations that are in the same direction, the closest, the intermediate and the most distant. We cannot use the same approach used for roads, this is dedicated only to hiking signposts that are specifically done in that way in Italy. We reached the compromise you found in the wiki after several iterations.
Ciao

If you want to use this scheme, this has to be discussed in a global scope as it is a completely incompatible scheme to what is used elsewhere. We're talking about 100,000 tagged signs world-wide, many of them specifically for hiking and biking.
If you say "slowly we'll fix all of them", this actually means "destroying existing, more detailed data that is supported by e.g. waymarkedtrails.org.
