Hello Supt_of_Printing,

In OpenStreetMap, we map things as they are now - not as they once were, or how we’d like them to be. In the case of railways, that means that once the tracks are gone railway=disused is no longer appropriate.

In this example https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/313039864/history you have twice changed it back to “disused”, despite what other local mappers think is the current situation.

Something similar happened with this former railway station https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/4695022172/history - there you even left “(closed 1893)” as part of the name.

Please don’t get into “edit wars” with other mappers like this - OpenStreetMap is a community where we all have to work together. If you want a map that shows former railway infrastructure I’d suggest finding one*, not changing things in OSM as if they still existed. If you do these sorts of changes again we’ll have to prevent you from updating OpenStreetMap.

Best Regards,

Andy Townsend, On behalf of OSM’s Data Working Group.

  • I’m sure several exist - I host one for the UK and Ireland that shows it, for example.
