Mobile osm-website frontend

Posted by wieland on 11 August 2011 in English (English)

osm.org is not useable on mobile devices for me.
So I wrote my version based on openlayer examples.

Let my know, if you like it.

looks not bad with opera mobile... but there are some problems:
1. android-browser: zoom don't work
2. on opera mini: no zoom and you can't move the map
3. general: permalink doesn't work (jumps always back to Frankfurt)

What exactly is the problem that you had with osm.org?

I mean touch events don't work on the map, we know that, but that is just because OpenLayers doesn't support them yet. When OpenLayers 2.11 is release we will upgrade to it and be able to support touch events on the map.

Is there anything other than that which you had a problem with?

@TomH: I was looking for something full-screen and touch-move and multitouch-zoom.
The controls are too small for everyday usage.
2.11 will be released soon, I hope. RC2 sounds promising.
I use a development release, because I'm just testing.

@efred: I tested only with Firefox on PC and iPhone4 :-(
Can you test http://openlayers.org/dev/examples/mobile-navigation.html ?
I will check the bug abount the permalink.

seems to be ok for me on Nexus S with Android 2.3.4.
Multitouch-Zoom doesn't work but i found a way to zoom, just double tap.
permalink point always to FrankfurtM.

ansonsten super arbeit!

BTW the reason pinch zoom doesn't work on Android, even with 2.11 is that the browsers don't expose the event to javascript.

On opera mini it is broken (can't move the map and the image is split),

On the default Android browser, dragging works and zooming-in with double clicking works (I don't have multitouch, so can't test it).

Oh, and opentouchmap.org also doesn't work on Opera Mini.

@jynus: Thanks, http://www.opentouchmap.org is almost, what I was looking for.
The zoom-in and -out controls are invisible on my iPhone4 iOS 4.3.5, but working.

Looking at the code of opentouchmap, it is intended to hide them:
var is_iphone = (agent.indexOf('iphone')!=-1);
if (is_iphone) {
$("zoomIn").hide();
$("zoomOut").hide();
}

I have now updated openlayers to RC2,
added zoom-in and zoom-out controls (thanks to http://opengaymap.info/)
and have fixed the permalink bug.
