House Numbers

Posted by twinsears on 8 April 2011 in English (English)

Is there some way to add house numbers to the map? Once again, this is a huge problem with any of the GPS maps I've used as well as GPS software for my smart phone.

Use the tag addr:housenumber=* to add the address, and the tag addr:street=* to tell it what street it's on. Add these tags to a node where the house is located. You can add tags telling it the city and state if you want, but it's not essential as it can figure those out itself. Hope this helps you.

You are asking about collecting Housenumbers?
The most people here use www.walking-papers.org to print the map and add them with a pen. Other use digicams or camcorders. There are dedicated solutions like this tool

In addition to what compdude wrote, some people prefer to map/tag accoring to http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/House_numbers/Karlsruhe_Schema ... but in the end, it's a matter of personal preference. :)

adding source is also helpfull, and don't tag house numbers in along with the Building tags, numbers should be a node inside the building as buildings can have two or more addresses and yet still be the same building :)

If you mean addresses being shown on your Garmin, this can only be achieved if the addresses are attached to a POI ; make sure the POI type is included in your TYP file.

@marscot and wilpin:
are you not supposed to tag addresses on a building? Do you HAVE to tag it as a node?
