Moving down Beach Street

I have a personal preference for tagging a business as a separate point. After all, there’s no rule that one building is only one business (think towers, or malls). But it also depends how other mappers work around you. If they have a preference for businesses as buildings, then it’s not a good idea to change the style of mapping unless you have a meeting and everyone changes their mind :)

I’d say keep only the oldest node or building, as it carries more history. I also noticed a double Jimmy John’s. There might be other duplicate businesses.

Moving down Beach Street

Well done :)

the changes propagated here as I can see the stores. You probably need to remove the cache from your browser (on firefox you can use Ctrl+F5 to clear the cache for the current page only, I think there are similar shortcuts for other browsers). It usually takes less that a minute for the biggest zoom levels.

Looking at the area, there seem to be two Net Works, Inc POIs, which is a problem I think :)

Confession

For the specific question of using the dialectal form for toponyms, I believe the general consensus is to use the official language(s). For instance, in Brussels they use both French and Dutch names, as both languages are official, whereas other parts of Belgium are monolingual. My experience with toponyms in France is that we always use the French name as name (since French is the only official language in France), and use the dialectal name (when it exists) in its own tag, as in name:br, name:oc, etc. We even had to invent our own language codes when none existed, such as name:fr-x-gallo :)

These languages are not rendered on the osm.org website, but we have our own maps with local names, for instance the Breton (br) map: https://kartenn.openstreetmap.bzh/. Similarly, we have maps with the Basque (eu) and Occitan (oc) languages: https://tile.openstreetmap.fr/?zoom=6&lat=46.4&lon=2.3508&layers=0000000B0FFFF

There was this discussion in the tagging ML recently: https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2020-July/054073.html. They didn’t come to a conclusion concerning waterways that disappear in the desert though.

Almost done

Yeah, if they’re too many, you can’t handle them all yourself… Maybe there’s a reason why they come and map Malaysia? Have you tried asking them why they map in your country? Maybe there’s a root cause for these changes, like a forum post or an organization, then you could fix that and all these mappers will suddenly do the right thing (well… hopefully ^^)

If they are tourists, you could suggest that they use streetcomplete, or add details from the ground instead.

By the way, I use https://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-change-tiles to help me keep track of edits in my local area. It might be easier to use it to detect new mappers in your region and react more quickly than having to wait for osmose :)

Nice work! How did you check all these addresses? do you have some kind of workflow? did you go yourself, used remote imagery/data?

Never ending edits

Have you tried communicating with these mappers? If you don’t talk to them, they’ll have no idea what kind of work you’re doing on the map and they’ll keep doing what they perceive as a “fix”. If you have a local community, suggest the mappers to get in touch with it.

Remember to be polite. You could even suggest alternatives that would benefit your community (maybe tracing buildings from imagery could help better, or retracing the whole coast to Maxar, or something else that can be done remotely). If after that, they still continue to change the map in a way your community doesn’t like, contact the DWG, they’ll help you.

bravo ! :)

Check latest changes in certain area

Nice tool, I’ll try to use it regularly in my area! Thank you!

Testing Delivery Subkeys for Food-Ordering Apps

It makes a lot of sense, thanks for sharing your thoughts! Could you add this to the discussion page at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Key:delivery? Or even create a formal proposition maybe? I think I’ll start using it in my local area :)

My Editing In OSM

Congrats! You could probably group more of your changes together in a single changeset though :)

FIRST EVER

Welcome on OSM to both of you!

Zone verte

Salut !

A simple survey and proposal about tagging cram schools

The Education Features page on the wiki also says that about prep_school: “amenity=prep_school – for test prep schools; use amenity=school for college-preparatory schools”, so I don’t think it’s a high school. There’s an image of a Japanese prep_school on the wiki page. Maybe you can tell us more about what that is?
