missing shop tags

Posted by pavithrans on 12 March 2010 in English.

OMG there are many of them !!

Its a fact that western world and its shops are represented in open street maps . But strangely why a 'car service' shop was not represented ? Also why shops like automobile showroom ( stores to buy cars ) are not represented?

I know and quite feel like ranting by saying "that is not available, this is not available" Anyways the better place to talk is at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_Features#Proposed_Features_-_Shop :(

One strange question before I close this entry .. "how do I represent a telephone company's customer service centre ? "

Hi, try this:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:shop%3Dcar

When there are things with no defined tags, you can make them up. People may pick them up from tagwatch and make them more consistent with other POIs later. You can tag things as you see fit on OSM. If you want to propose tags on the wiki so that people can tag with consistency, and so that people can use the data, there is nothing to stop you. It can take a while to reach consensus though.

What exactly do you mean by a customer service centre? A telephone customer service centre or a shop where you can walk in and there is a service counter?

oops I found that the car and bicycle shops are represented in JOSM in Transport section . I was looking at shops.

There are many bike showrooms in india . Maybe a new tag .

@daveemtb Thank you . There are shops for phone company where customers come for complaining and also for knowing new features which the phone company provides.
