Hi Warin61,

It's great to see some of Sydney's many "unnamed streets" finally getting their names added.

OSM inspector (OSMI) shows where all the unnamed ones are and is a great tool for a bit of street sign hunting.

http://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/?lon=151.01754&lat=-33.85137&zoom=11

You just have to switch to highways and I select only the Highway name/ref box Welcone Aboard

Nicely done!

I'm also in Canberra and since I'm starting to do quite a bit of mountain biking, I'm adding the remaining missing trails at Stromlo Forest Park. I'll also start riding/checking or mapping other areas (sparrow/kowen etc).

Introducing Team Surrey about 2 years ago

Excellent stuff.

I'm sure you'll have the area looking better than new in no time flat.

And THIS time your info will be there for (probably) hundreds of years!!!!!

I love the "hole in the red" that is appearing in this area.

Remapping over 2 years ago

Good luck with the remapping!!

I've been doing some cleaning up in Vegas.
Added some new neighbourhoods (from TIger 2011)
that had been traced by decliners but not
street named.

Also I finally get to use my traces of the spagetti bowl
in Vegas. A few years ago, while on holiday there I
hired a Shelby Mustang to map that intersection.

It took me 13 passes, but who cares in a Shelby :-)

When I got back to Australia I was all ready to map it
but found that another user (now a decliner) had beaten
me to it.

Cheers

Advertisements over 2 years ago

Ok - sorry Guys.

I naively thought I'd have a try to get an advertising person interested in maybe looking at OSM and then he'd be unable to stop himself adding all his clients businesses as POIs into OSM.

I thought that he must have spent a fair amount of effort to create so many accounts with different e-mail addresses done the confirmations and then entered some reasonably high quality advertising.

I even hoped that the owners of the businesses may have gotten involved and well then the skys the limit. We would soon have thousands of OSM POI data collectors :-)

Ahhh well - I think is was worth a shot. Shame no one replied :-(

PS His clients seemed to mostly be in the one town and I hoped maybe to get a whole town involved - that'd be interesting.

Could someone dump that last 50 or so adverts into my inbox. When I get time I may contact the businesses involved and see if I can help them get onto OSM.

Colleen's Services over 2 years ago

Hi Bonnie,

I have added this to Openstreetmap from the description in your website. Can you check the info and let me know if it is incorrect. I nearly put shop=money lender, but thought better of it and made up a new tag amenity=legal_services.

I see from Google Street View that there is a mexican restaurant in your building. Unfortunately we can't use Google to put info into OSM but if you could verify the existance of that reataurant and edit it into OSM, that would benifit all of us.

Carvalho's Pool Service over 2 years ago

Hi Joey,

I have put you business on the openstreetmap but I'm not sure of the exact placement.

Could you check it out and move it to the correct spot please.
I got the phone number from Bing so if you could check that out as well, taht would be great.

There doesn't seem to be a recognized tag or Icon for type of business yet so maybe you could design one or suggest a tag value. I've just made up one of "Pool Services"

Cheers

asciiphil is correct. No Nearmap derived contribution need to be removed, ever.

However, if a disgruntled user insists that their contributions (whether Nearmap derived or not) must be deleted from OSM, their data has to go.

Once the CT's are enforced, users will never be able to do this to the project again.

the Granite Belt, a lovely part of the world. almost 3 years ago

Sorry - the only track I've got from those regions is on the train from Warick to Wallangarra and I've mapped that.

I hope you can find a way to map the pryamid at Ballandean!

Horsham is getting somewhere almost 3 years ago

Between Darlot and Firebrace, just south of the Dimboola Road, Baillie Street Junction (according to Google maps)

Horsham is getting somewhere almost 3 years ago

Great stuff Emmertex, It's terrific to see another mapper actually going out and surveying accurate data. Horsham now looks good enough that the various routable OSM maps should be useful for tourists to travel to or through the city.

I've started to "desk check" your data against other sources (googlemaps whereis etc, etc...) also Bing maps allow you to easily switch from OSM data to commercial mapping data. As well the tool
http://tools.geofabrik.de/mc/ is excellent for spotting missing roads or naming errors.

Just to get you started.....

Is it Selkrik Drive or Selkirk Drive?
Is there an Ashwim Close (and/or Ashwin walk) off Selkirk Drive.
Have Jos and Bradburys Lanes been unnamed or deleted (now car parks??)

I've had a look at the keep right errors for Horsham and it's now not too bad at all.

Most of the errors appear to be from the "tracers" tracing driveways or serviceways etc straight across roads without any connections or tracing in really short driveways leading to nothing (and they may also be misaligned as well - only you could tell). Do you want me to try to fix a few of these things. I've done heaps of error fixing in the Canberra area and it's a good way of killing off a few winter nights.

From Alty to a uncharted territory - hooray! over 3 years ago

"it's killed my motivation to survey them "

I couldn't agree more. I'd like to see road surveyed first, in order to get the correct name from the street sign and any turn restrictions/oneway indications, and then imagery could be used to improve the alignment of the roads and add footpaths etc.

There's one area near me in Australia that is not well mapped yet and I am hoping to get to it before the hi-res imagery does.

Tectonic drift almost 4 years ago

I agree with you completely Pink Duck. Even if our data is only +/- 2 metre accuracy, if there is a known drift, over time, in this data, then we should account for it.

Perhaps it's not an urgent issue, but from the perspective of trying to create a professional quality map, it's (IMHO) an important one.

More Goonellabah Mapping + road collapse over 4 years ago

Hi,

This is an interesting topic, just how up-to-date should OSM be.

If road works are just for the day then no action is required.
Howeve if road works/Etc significantly alter the routing aspects of a road for
a week or more then (IMHO) OSM should reflect this.

Akranes mapping results over 5 years ago

Looks good!

BTW - how should we tag roads that habitually become impassable at certain times of the year.

Do we tag as no access from (for example) December to March or do we wait for
snow to make it impassable and then tag it as such until the condition disappears. (I favour the latter for major access roads).

Two men went to mow... over 5 years ago

You think you had it bad !!!!

I got a plane from Australia to LA, then another to Las Vegas. There I hired a Shelby Mustang to drive the 14 passes through the Spagettiball intersection, needed to map this monstrosity properly.

Arriving back in Australia, I load up my tracks only to find that Blars has just mapped this intersection beautifully.

Doesn't matter - driving the Shelby on the wrong side of the road under those conditions was serious fun.

London, GB, Street no 27846933 over 5 years ago

Also there are no public gps tracks for this area therefore it is possible that this area was traced rather than surveyed.

Looking at the Yahoo imagery it is easy to see how the original tracer may have been fooled by the shadows in thinking that there was a road here.

London, GB, Street no 27846933 over 5 years ago

Do we have any history earlier than Jun 14. According to surgeon's diary, on Jun 14 he noticed this wrong road and tried to fix it. At the same time he tried to add in "Red Lion Yard" which probably accounts for the small kink in the road. His attempt was not successful and over the days further attemts only suceeded in adding in another similar copy.
