Wishlist: GPX tracks analyzer

Posted by naoliv on 7 February 2014 in English (English)

I would like to have a service that would analyze all the GPX tracks that we have + the OSM data and nicely display something saying: this area is probably missing some highways (if there are GPX tracks and no data in OSM, then probably we are missing something)

That would be great.

I'm working on something along those lines: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/That_Shouldnt_Be_Possible

Though it's not really designed for "batch mode" as the results do have to be analyzed slightly to see what's wrong.

I'm hoping to expand its coverage to more countries soon.

(just for the record)
As I asked a very similar question in April 2010¹ the general statement was:
"What for? Either I have been recording logs on my own and can use logs existing at OSM to average my own tracks - or I wouldn't bother/try to map foreign logs at all."

¹ http://en.it-usenet.org/thread/12243/21278/ (mirror of the ML talk-de where I cannot find my opening post)
It sais:
Is there a tool to search for uploaded GPS traces near which no way has been mapped? Such a thing would be handy – best with links to JOSM/Potlatch to edit.
